MiniTHON To Be Held January 31st

1/22/2014 —

On Friday, January 31st and Saturday, February 1st, Penn State Wilkes-Barre will be holding its first MiniTHON, a 12-hour Pajama Party Dance Marathon benefitting THON.

The Penn State IFC/Panhellenic Dance Marathon, affectionately known as THON, is the largest student-run philanthropy in the world. THON, a yearlong effort to raise funds and awareness for the fight against pediatric cancer, has raised more than $101 million for the Four Diamonds Fund at Penn State Hershey Children's Hospital since 1977. THON 2014 will take place from February 21st-23rd, 2014 at Penn State's Bryce Jordan Center.

In anticipation of THON 2014, Penn State Wilkes-Barre students are inviting the local college community to get into the THON spirit. The PJ DJ MiniTHON will run from 9 p.m. on Friday, January 31st through 9 a.m. on Saturday, February 1st on the Wilkes-Barre campus.

“Our entire student body, not just those involved in THON, support all that THON does throughout the year on our campus,” explains Student Activities Coordinator, Jackie Warnick-Piatt. “We often get questions from the other Luzerne County colleges about THON, and we felt that by bringing a MiniTHON to campus this year, we were giving them an opportunity to support this worthy cause.”

The deadline to register for the MiniTHON is Monday, January 27th. Free t-shirts will be given to those that raise $50 or more. Tickets to observe can be purchased for $20. Local colleges are encouraged to attend with school IDs. Anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent for the entire event. Parent tickets are $20. Food, snacks, and games will be provided throughout the night. There will be no admittance into the event after midnight. Campus location will be determined on Tuesday, January 28th based on the number of attendees.
