Conversational Spanish

Penn State’s “Conversational Spanish” is an introductory level class for students with little to no conversational ability in or knowledge of the Spanish language. The course will span 5 weeks. Each 2-hour session will introduce and then build upon basics of the language such as the Spanish alphabet, numbers, and present-tense verbs. The gender of nouns, adjective agreement, and other general grammar concepts will be discussed as well. In a comfortable and supportive environment, students will converse using common greetings and phrases — honing their pronunciation skills, enhancing their memories, and bolstering their confidence. Throughout the class, students will select and translate their own set of sentences designed with a personal goal of communication in mind — be it travel, work, or awareness. Students will also explore electronic and traditional translator tools, examining their worth and evaluating their usefulness.
