Penn State Wilkes-Barre is located in Lehman Township, a small community only 10 miles away from downtown Wilkes-Barre. A city with a population of 43,000, Wilkes-Barre is located in Northeastern Pennsylvania in the Wyoming Valley on the Susquehanna River.
 
Wilkes-Barre and the surrounding area have much to offer. Cultural events such as Broadway touring shows, local professional theatre, concerts, museums, fairs, and many others abound. Just outside the city limits you will find beautiful countryside, with rolling hills, rivers, farmland, woodlands, and state parks. This setting provides a variety of winter and summer outdoor activities, including skiing in the nearby Pocono Mountains, hiking, fishing, horseback riding, camping, and golfing, among others. Further sources of entertainment include outlet shopping, water parks, amusement parks, harness racing, concerts, and sporting events. In addition, the area has a wide variety of hotel, motel, inn and bed & breakfast accomodations, as well as restaurants for every taste and budget.

If you wish to explore farther afield, Penn State’s Wilkes-Barre is only two hours from Philadelphia, two and a half hours from New York City and the New Jersey beaches, and three hours from Baltimore.
