Outstanding Adult Learner selected

4/7/2006 —
Michele Cerski, honor student and campus/community volunteer, has been named the 2006 Outstanding Adult Learner at Penn State Wilkes-Barre. Michele began her academic career as an adult student in 1999 while working full-time at Sallie Mae. Taking advantage of the opportunity to enroll in Penn State Wilkes-Barre's convenient off-site credit courses, she completed a certificate in business administration and then went on to earn an associate degree in business at the campus, graduating with high distinction. Still working full-time, Michele is pursuing bachelor's degrees in Administration of Justice and Information Sciences and Technology.

An active campus volunteer, Michele she serves on the Adult Student Recruitment and Retention Committee and has participated in presentations for the Office of Institutional Advancement and the Advisory Board. She brought a chapter of the adult student honor society, Alpha Sigma Lambda, to Penn State Wilkes-Barre and she is the first president of this chapter.

A mother of two school age children, Michele also devotes many hours per week to their activities, particularly their sports teams. In addition, she is a volunteer for the Visiting Nurse Association and Sallie Mae's Adopt a Child program.

Michele, along with the Outstanding Adult Learners from College Misericordia, Luzerne County Community College, King's College and Wilkes University, was honored and received her award at a dinner at King's College.
