Penn State Wilkes-Barre Surveying Student Selected for Outreach Program

Christopher JacksonChristopher Jackson, a senior surveying engineering student at Penn State Wilkes-Barre, will participate in the U.S. Hydro 2011 Conference sponsored by the Hydrographic Society of America (THSOA) this April in Tampa, Fla.

Jackson, a native of Robinson Township, Pa., is among a small group of only 20 students invited to this outreach program and will join fellow students from Florida, California, Alaska,Minnesota, New York, Pennsylvania, and Canada for the four-day symposium.

The U.S. Hydro 2011 Conference will feature technical and poster sessions as well as workshops devoted to the latest technology regarding hydrographic surveying, electronic charting, marine archaeology, and multibeam and side scan sonar, among other topics.

Jackson currently serves as president of the Penn State Wilkes-Barre Surveying Society, and is a member of the Lambda Sigma National Honor Society for surveyors. He is also a student member of the Pennsylvania Society of Land Surveyors (PSLS), American Society of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ASPRS), American Society of Highway Engineers (ASHE), and American Congress on Surveying and Mapping (ACSM). Additionally, Jackson is an Eagle Scout and volunteers as an associate advisor to Venturing Crew 306 and Assistant Scoutmaster for Troop 262 in Pittsburgh.
