The 2011 Penn State Wilkes-Barre Cross Country team is looking to compete for not only the PSUAC Championship, but the USCAA National Championship. Under first-year Head Coach Brian Stanchak, the Wilkes-Barre program will look to establish a foundation of success while building a tradition for the future.
Leandri's Run Falls Short
11/10/11 - Freshman Alex Leandri finished 27th out of 110 at the USCAA Championships this past Friday in Lake Placid, NY. Leandri had a tremendous season winning all four of her PSUAC races, including the PSUAC Individual Women’s Cross Country Championship. “Alex was great to coach this season. She worked hard and had such a positive attitude. I look forward to coaching her next season and helping her reach her goal of being named USCAA All-American” said Head Coach, Brian Stanchak.
Leandri Sweeps Conference, Wins First PSUAC Championship
10/22/11 - Penn State Wilkes-Barre freshman Alex Leandri (Mechanicsburg, PA) won the PSUAC women’s cross country individual championship on Saturday at Penn State Fayette. Leandri finished with a time of 23:15 in the very tough 5k race. This was the first PSUAC cross-country title in Penn State Wilkes-Barre history. Leandri swept the conference this year, winning all four of her PSUAC races. Leandri will next compete for a USCAA National Championship on November 11th in Lake Placid, NY.
Leandri Makes it Three for Three
10/15/11 - Penn State Wilkes-Barre Freshman Alex Leandri won her third straight PSUAC cross-country meet, winning the PSUAC Lehigh Valley Women’s Cross Country Invitational with a time of 22:23. The second place finisher finished 1 minute 15 seconds behind Leandri. Leandri has won each race she ran this season and will look for a sweep of the PSUAC season next weekend. She will be competing for the PSUAC Championship next Saturday, October 22nd at Penn State Fayette.
Leandri Named USCAA Runner of the Week
10/4/11 - Alex Leandri, a freshman at Penn State-Wilkes Barre, is the USCAA Women’s Cross Country Co-Runner of the Week. Alex finished in first place at the PSUAC Mont Alto Invitational 5k run with a time of 21:36. This time was 1:43 faster than the second place finisher.
Leandri Wins Second Cross Country Meet
10/1/11 – Freshman Alex Leandri is off to a fast start, winning her second straight PSUAC Cross Country meet on Saturday afternoon. She finished with a time of 21:36 to win the PSUAC Mont Alto Cross Country Invitational. The second place runner finished 1 minute 43 seconds behind Alex on the challenging 5K race course. Leandri’s next race is in two weeks (Saturday, October 15th) at the PSUAC Lehigh Valley Cross Country Invitational.
Leandri Wins 2011 Penn State Wilkes-Barre Women’s Cross Country Invitational
9/17/11 – On Saturday, September 17th, the first PSUAC Cross Country meet of the season took place at Penn State Wilkes-Barre. The big winner for the day was Wilkes-Barre freshman Alex Leandri, who won the women’s race with a time of 17:24 minutes. She blew away the competition, as the second place finisher crossed the finish line with a 18:29 minute time (Amber Martin – Worthington Scranton). Wilkes-Barre Coach Brian Stanchak said after the race “I am so proud of Alex. She has worked tremendously hard throughout the pre-season and all of that hard work paid off for her today.”
