Penn State Wilkes-Barre Baseball Season Preview

2/15/15 – The baseball season is fast approaching. In just a little over a month, Jason McManus, head coach for the Penn State Wilkes-Barre Mountain Lions’ baseball team, will start his second full year with the team. The season begins with two non-conference games: March 17th against King’s College and March 20th against Baptist Bible. In an interview with senior baseball player Ed Moffett, Ed stated that he is excited to kick off the season with the two non-conference games, because they will allow the team to get into the swing of things and see live pitches. The team will also be able to make changes before starting conference play a little over a week later. After going 5-13 last season, the team is determined to make a playoff push. Moffett also said he got into the weight room more and has thrown and hit the ball more in the off-season than in previous years. If you go into the gym, you will sometimes find players fielding ground balls and tossing the ball around in preparation for the upcoming season. Moffett said that he is excited to get back on the diamond with his teammates and I’m sure the feeling is mutual. In the mind of most athletes, teamwork is the key to winning, and baseball is a 100% team sport; you cannot win by yourself. Ed expressed this when he said, “I would rather win the game than go 4 out of 4 from the plate and lose.” The first home game is against Penn State Beaver on Saturday, March 28th at 2:00 pm. Come out and support your Penn State Wilkes-Barre men’s baseball team as they look to have a turnaround year!
