Penn State Wilkes-Barre’s Athletic and Recreation Mission Statement is consistent with that of the University: to foster programs that are consistent with the educational aims and objectives of Penn State University and that are conducted in accordance with the philosophy and standards of the University.
The Athletics and Recreation Building (ARB) and its surrounding fields and courts offer a wide range of fitness options to our students, including specialized equipment and programs.
Students at Penn State Wilkes-Barre can participate in a variety of club and intramural programs in addition to six Varsity sports. The Recreation and Athletics Program includes intercollegiate and intramural team sports as well as competitive and non-competitive activities.
Each year approximately seven open recreation programs are offered on campus. These include flag football, aerobics, basketball, badminton, racquetball, volleyball, and indoor soccer. Each program has been designed and developed to meet the diverse needs of the campus.
Intercollegiate sports at the campus include men’s basketball, men’s baseball, co-ed cross country, co-ed golf, co-ed soccer, and women’s volleyball, with future consideration to co-ed tennis, women’s softball, and women’s basketball. Intercollegiate club sports include men’s volleyball, co-ed cheerleading, and co-ed bowling.
The campus competes in the PSU Commonwealth Campus Athletic Conference and the Pennsylvania Collegiate Athletic Association.
